What to Expect

Following the completion of a digital intake form, treatment begins with a one-on-one discussion regarding your needs, goals, and injuries and conditions, including circumstances of their onset or term where relevant. A physical assessment will also be performed through various methods, such as testing muscles in isolation for individual performance, and both active and passive range of motion within a pain-free spectrum to determine joint mobility and/or systematic muscular or broad fascial tension. For this reason, it is recommended that clients to wear or bring loose or stretchy clothing to their sessions.

Based on this information -- both per-session and with the context of previous sessions -- the practitioner will communicate their ideas and intentions on how to proceed, and which techniques will be used towards treatment and why, working within the client's comfort levels. For example, treatment may call only for direct tension relief on specific muscles and myofascial release, while others may be a combination of massage, mobilizations, stretching, and/or work directed towards the nervous system. We believe in and have personally observed that bodywork does not need to hurt in order to be effective, and as such, the practitioner will check-in often regarding pressure to ensure it remains within a reasonable threshold of discomfort and painlessness.

Time may be reserved at the end of a session for the practitioner to communicate observations, provide education, and suggest possible self-help techniques and client self-education where applicable.

About Linette

I am a licensed massage therapist of nine years with a primary focus on anatomy, chronic pain, and injury resolution for my clients. I do not perform standard "relaxation" massage therapy, but instead utilize a variety of manual, neuromuscular and myofascial techniques towards identifying and rectifying plausible structural issues within my scope of practice, which includes modalities such as trigger point release, proprioceptive neuromuscular technique, sports massage, scar therapy, the Nemerov method, Mulligan mobilization, standard deep tissue massage, and more. I strictly adhere to and believe in a scientific but sympathetic approach, regularly attend workshops to further my education and specializations, and have additionally apprenticed beneath Beth Labaugh, BS, LMT, the founder of Kennebec Therapeutics, since early 2022 to further my skills based on her experience.

My career originally began with two BA's earned in 2013 from the University of Maine, but after a few years behind a computer screen working in office administration and publishing, I realized I found greater fulfillment connecting with people individually, and sought out a new career in massage therapy. Thanks to my education in art, further specializing in structural anatomy came to me very easily and has become a foundation of my career. I find great fulfillment in working with clients one-on-one, hearing their stories, and studying and treating their chronic pain efficiently and effectively. I take massive pride in what I do and the role I play in my clients' lives.

My office is based around mutual respect as a foundation, and around clients feeling both heard and educated to further identify and address their pain. I am committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and judgment-free space for people from all walks of life, regardless of age, gender, race, disability, body type, neurotype, and so on.

In my free time, I practice a lot of writing, art, and various crafts, and play handbells. I'm a proud Maine native, a francophone, and I live locally with my fiance and the world's two cutest cats.

About Kennebec Therapeutics

Kennebec Therapeutics was founded in 1989 by Beth Labaugh, BS, LMT, a massage therapist specializing in orthopedic massage and integrative techniques, and over time has routinely included a number of other massage therapists and structural bodywork practitioners with a wide variety of approaches with the same goal of pain management for clients. Over the course of its lifetime, Kennebec Therapeutics has been located in Hallowell, Manchester, and most recently downtown Augusta, where it was located in the Olde Federal Building on Water St. for over 10 years. In more than one location, the office has been proudly located on the Kennebec River.

Beth retired in June 2024 after 36 years in the field, and the practice was handed down to her apprentice, Linette, whom she still graciously mentors in her free time.
