What to Expect

Following the completion of a digital intake form, treatment begins with a one-on-one discussion regarding your needs, goals, and injuries and conditions. A physical assessment may also be performed through various methods, such as testing muscles in isolation for individual performance, and both active and passive range of motion within a pain-free spectrum to determine joint mobility and/or systematic muscular or broad fascial tension. For this reason, it is recommended that clients to wear or bring loose or stretchy clothing to their sessions.

Based on this information -- both per-session and with the context of previous sessions -- the practitioner will communicate their ideas and intentions on how to proceed, and which techniques will be used towards treatment and why, working within the client's comfort levels. For example, treatment may call only for direct tension relief on specific muscles and myofascial release, while others may be a combination of massage, mobilizations, stretching, and/or work directed towards the nervous system. We believe in and have personally observed that bodywork does not need to hurt in order to be effective, and as such, the practitioner will check-in often regarding pressure to ensure it remains within a reasonable threshold of discomfort and painlessness.

Time may be reserved at the end of a session for the practitioner to communicate observations, provide education, and suggest possible self-help techniques and client self-education where applicable.

About Linette

My career originally began with two BA's earned in 2013 from the University of Maine in Orono, but after a few years working in office administration and publishing, I realized I found greater fulfillment connecting with people one-on-one. I sought out a new career in massage therapy, where I then fell in love with the science behind how we function.

Today, I am a licensed massage therapist of ten years with a focus on acute and chronic pain resolution through the study and treatment of structural instability or immobility, whether at the muscular, fascial, or joint level. I utilize a variety of manual, massage, neuromuscular, and myofascial techniques to determine and treat the root causes of client pain or discomfort, which includes modalities such as proprioceptive neuromuscular technique, scar therapy, the Nemerov method, Mulligan mobilization, standard deep tissue and trigger point massage, and more. I strongly believe in a scientific but sympathetic approach, regularly attend workshops to further my education and specializations, and have completed an apprenticeship all in the interest of being the most effective and helpful therapist I can be.

My office is based around mutual respect as a foundation, and around clients feeling both heard and educated to further address their pain on their own. I am committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and judgment-free space for people from all walks of life, regardless of age, gender, race, disability, body type, neurotype, and so on.

In my free time I work on fantasy novels, do arts and crafts, play video and board games, and perform handbells. I'm a proud Maine native (Lewiston Strong), a francophone, and I live locally with my husband and our two cats.

About Kennebec Therapeutics

Kennebec Therapeutics was founded in 1989 by Beth Labaugh, BS, LMT, a massage therapist specializing in orthopedic massage and integrative techniques, and over time has routinely included a number of other massage therapists and structural bodywork practitioners with a wide variety of approaches with the same goal of pain management for clients. Over the course of its lifetime, Kennebec Therapeutics has been located in Hallowell, Manchester, and most recently downtown Augusta, where it was located in the Olde Federal Building on Water Street for over 10 years. In more than one location, the office has been proudly located on the Kennebec River.

Beth retired in June 2024 after 36 years in the field, at which time ownership of the practice was handed down to her apprentice, Linette. The office was moved to Green Street in Augusta due to the sale of the Olde Federal Building, where it remains today.
