Massage Therapy & Integrative Therapies - Techniques
Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is a traditional massage technique for relaxation, stress reduction and circulation; it promotes self-awareness, and positive life changes. Please note that we are not taking on new clients for strictly Swedish/relaxation massage at this time, and do not offer couples' massage.
Myofascial Release
This technique helps to stretch and release muscles and fascia, the connective tissue surrounding the muscles, thereby restoring flexibility and decreasing chronic tension and pain. In addition, it helps to restore normal posture by lengthening shortened tissues.
Neuromuscular Massage
This is a specific type of massage used for elimination of "trigger points": areas in muscles which may be "triggering" or referring pain to other areas of the body. For instance trigger points in the scalene muscles of the neck often create "referred pain" in the upper back and chest, which can be eliminated by releasing these neck points with pressure. Trigger points are common, and knowledge of their common locations and pain patterns can greatly speed identification of where your pain is coming from and how to resolve it.
Deep Tissue Massage and Cross-fiber Massage
These specific massage techniques are effective in eliminating scarring, trigger points, and adhesions around injured or tight muscles. Scar tissue is common in old muscle injuries as well as surgeries, and prevents proper lengthening of muscles which can lead to pain as other muscles try to compensate.
Rolf Method Structural Integration
Reorganizes connective tissues throughout the body in a series of interactive sessions. This dynamic process focuses attention on the freeing of joints and balancing of muscles for optimum ease, energy and upright posture.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage uses various massage techniques to improve performance and flexibility, promote recovery, and to help prevent injuries.
Nemerov Method of Neuromuscular Therapy
This revolutionary method uses the science of motor control to quickly change the compensatory patterns you may have developed in response to an old injury, but which are now generating tension and pain in the compensating muscles. This technique restores your original, more efficient, movement patterns and results in less pain immediately, and greater strength and ease of movement that builds with each session.
Muscle Energy Technique and Mulligan Mobilization
These gentle techniques help to restore pain-free range of motion and re-trains proper alignment of the hips, shoulders, spine, and joints of the arms, hands, legs, and ankles, eliminating the "pinching" type of pain common when joints have "learned" a faulty tracking pattern due to injury or posture.
Kineseotaping
The Kineseo Taping (R) Method is a rehabilitative taping technique designed to facilitate the body's healing process, by sending gentle yet effective messages to the brain to use muscles and joints in ways closer to how you used to use them before injury or poor posture caused painful motion patterns. Kineseo Tape can instantly relieve pain, as well as keep the therapeutic benefit of bodywork going for days after the session, resulting in more permanent changes.
Craniostructural Integration
Craniostructural Integration addresses craniosacral system function. It is especially helpful in resolving headaches, postural distortions, and repetitive stress injuries.
Postural Analysis
Postural Analysis enables the therapist to focus on underlying restrictions in order to promote long-lasting changes and avoid "Symptom-chasing".
Injury Evaluation and Treatment
As taught by the Benjamim Institute, this orthopedically based approach to soft-tissue injuries includes specific evaluation protocols followed by specific massage treatment for common injuries such as tennis elbow, rotator cuff strains, back sprains etc.
